Structure

In order to achieve the afore-mentioned goals and fulfill its duties in a suitable manner, Farabi International Award has adopted a structure which consists of four main pillars; the president, the policymaking council, the secretary and secretariat, and the scientific council which has the following characteristics:

1. The presidency of the Award: The esteemed Minister of Science, Research, and Technology is the president of the Farabi International Award.

Note: In order to expedite and coordinate the Award affairs and facilitate the implementation of the policies of the Policymaking Council, a Steering Committee consisting of Deputy Science Minister for Cultural and Social Affairs, Deputy Science Minister for Research and Technology, and Director of the Institute of Social and Cultural Studies will be formed.

2. Policymaking Council: The Policymaking council is the highest decision and policy making body in the Award’s macro planning. Its members include:

- Minister of Science, Research and Technology (President of the Council);

- Deputy Science Minister for Cultural and Social Affairs (Vice President and Secretary);

- Deputy Science Minister for Research and Technology;

- Deputy Director of Science and Culture at the Management and Planning Organization of Iran

- Vice-President of Iran's National Elites Foundation

- President of the Academy of Sciences;

- President of the Academy of Persian Language and Literature

- President of the Institute of Humanities and Cultural Studies;

- President of the Institute of Islamic Culture and Science;

- President of the Institute for Research in Philosophy;

- President of the Iranology Foundation

- Deputy Director of Research at Qom Seminary;

- Secretary-General of the National Commission and Regional Office of ISESCO;

- Secretary-General of the National Commission and Regional Office of UNESCO;

- Three to five prominent scholars in the field of Humanities and Social Sciences suggested by the Secretary of the Award and confirmed by the Minister of Science, Research and Technology.

                                                                               

3. Secretary and Secretariat of the Award: Deputy Minister of Science, Research and Technology for Cultural and Social Affairs is the Secretary of the Farabi International Award, in charge of all the scientific and executive aspects of the Award, as well as its macro management. He is also the Minister’s representative in the Policymaking Council and the Head of Scientific Council.

The main operational role of the Secretariat of the Farabi International Award is to plan and manage all the preparations necessary to hold the Award, and it has been established at the Institute of Social and Cultural Studies of the Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology since the beginning of the Award.

4. The Scientific Council of the Award: The Council is the main authority for making decisions and supervising the plans and scientific activities of the Award in carrying out the regulations related to the referees and selection of winners, finalized by this Council. Council members include the Award President, heads of 11 scientific groups, the head of the secretariat, and the Secretary of the Scientific Council.

5. Scientific Groups: Scientific Groups have the most important functional and operational roles in judging and selecting the best works competing for the Award.  Screening, judging, and choosing winner works and people are carried out by these groups which comprise of 5 or 7 prominent scholars or researchers in scientific fields related to the  group’s expertise and profession.  The Farabi International Award consists of the following 12 groups:

1. History, Geography, and Archeology

2. Law

3. Language and Literature

4. Social and Communication Sciences

5. Economics, Management, and Accounting

6. Educational Sciences, Psychology, Behavioral Sciences, and Physical Education

7. Political Sciences, International Relations, and Regional Studies

8. Fiqh, Principles of Islamic Jurisprudence, Quranic sciences, and Hadith

9. Philosophy, Theosophy, Ethics, Religions, and Mysticism

10. Information Technology and Library Science

11. Studies of Arts and Aesthetics.

12. Studies of Iran’s Islamic Revolution and Imam Khomeini (RIP)
