TEHRAN — The Minister of Science, Research, and Technology of the Islamic Republic of Iran has issued official decrees appointing the executive leadership for the upcoming 17th Farabi International Festival, marking the formal commencement of the prestigious event.
Professor Hossein Simayi, who also serves as the President of the 17th Farabi International Festival, announced the appointments through separate official decrees. Under the new appointments, Professor Vahid Shalchi has been named the Secretary of the festival. In his mandate, the Minister emphasized the necessity of meticulous planning and the utilization of all available resources to ensure the success of this edition.
Furthermore, Professor Mohammadtaghi Karami has been appointed as the Head of the Festival Secretariat, following a recommendation from the Festival Secretary. The Minister highlighted the secretariat’s fundamental role in the seamless execution of this significant scientific gathering.
Completing the leadership structure, Professor Reza Mahouzi was appointed as the Secretary of the Scientific Council. In his decree, Professor Simayi stressed the importance of rigorous scientific scrutiny in evaluating the high-caliber research submissions received.
About the Farabi Festival
Named in honor of the eminent philosopher AbuNasr Farabi, the festival stands as the most significant national event in the fields of humanities and Islamic studies in Iran, and holds considerable international standing. Held annually in Tehran since 2007, the festival aims to identify, evaluate, and promote outstanding research and scholarly works.
The festival operates under the auspices of the Ministry of Science, Research, and Technology. According to its charter, the Minister of Science serves as the Festival President, while the Deputy Minister for Cultural and Social Affairs acts as the Festival Secretary. The Secretariat is hosted by the Institute for Cultural and Social Studies.
The 16th edition of the festival concluded in February 2026 in a ceremony attended by the President of Iran.
