Professor Farina maintained the weakness of humankind in confronting the natural threat, saying that nature Should be rediscovered and science development should be in tune with nature and alignment with ethics.
Both lecturers concurred that while epistemology of the virus matters since there is no transparent document on the way the virus emerged, we should suspend any firm beliefs about whether the virus was a natural phenomenon or the byproduct of human civilization at the science labs.
Dr. Farina discussed the political dimension of vaccines giving some examples of the politicization of vaccines throughout world history. He affirmed that each block of vaccine (Russia, West, and China) had its geopolitical reasons. Although he conceived that it is an apocalyptic illusion to claim that covid vaccine saved the world, Dr. Samim emphasized that mass vaccination was a magic of science and a sign of modernity.
Dr. Samim believes that modern science finally saved the world, and vaccination showed how science can overcome problems.
Dr. Samim affirmed that in times of crisis, human being could realize their unfulfilled potential. The global challenge of Covid is a time for humankind to make the best use of their potential to enter a new phase to shape a new world.
While he emphasized that the real of science and technology will be more affected by Covid, he does not underestimate the role that humanities can play in conceptualizing the transformative nature of Covid on sociocultural aspects of life. He gave examples of Covid research in the field of humanities published by the scientific journal of the Institute for Cultural ,Social and Civilization Studies(ICSCS).
Both lecturers emphasized the significance of stricter regulations on using science and technology.
Dr. Samim confirmed that civil society should implement ethics rather than the state.
Both lecturers confirmed the significance of the emergent need for the collaboration of scholars of different fields of science, humanities, medical science and technology, and of different countries regardless of the biases and political objectives.
